2152: TENNIS - The schedule for Friday's play at the US Open is announced and Britain's Andy Murray will play Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the third match of the day on Louis Armstrong Stadium court. The match will start after the all-US clash between John Isner and Robby Ginepri, which will not start before 1800 BST. The earliest Murray and Haase will be on court will be around 2000 BST but it could be closer to 2100.

2121: FOOTBALL -England wrap up a 6-0 win over Azerbaijan in their Under 21 Euro 2013 Group Eight qualifier at Vicarage Road - two goals apiece from Henri Lansbury and Craig Dawson with Jordan Henderson and Martyn Waghorn also on target.

2100: FOOTBALL - Henri Lansbury makes it 4-0 for the England Under-21s against their Azerbaijan counterparts at Vicarage Road in their Euro 2013 Group Eight qualifier. 2039: RUGBY UNION - At 2100 BST on 5 Live Rugby on BBC Radio 5 Live, you can relive how England defied the odds to reach the 2007 Rugby World Cup final with interviews from Phil Vickery, Brian Ashton, Mike Catt and Josh Lewsey. 2020: FOOTBALL - At half-time in their Euro 2013 Group Eight qualifier at Vicarage Road, England Under-21s lead Azerbaijan 3-0. West Brom defender Craig Dawson headed in a Henri Lansbury corner, before Lansbury volleyed in from an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cross in the opening 20 minutes. Skipper Jordan Henderson then curled in a shot from the edge of the penalty area just before the break to make it three. It could have been more for England had Arsenal's Oxlade-Chamberlain not had several goal-bound efforts well saved.

Capello has faith in youngsters

2016: FOOTBALL -England manager Fabio Capello says Manchester United trio Tom Cleverly, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are "ready" for the England squad, but will not name his team until Friday for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.

2012: TENNIS - Roger Federer's win over Israel's Dudi Sela gives him his 225th Open-era Grand Slam victory, moving him past Andre Agassi into second place on the all-time list. Jimmy Connors is the leader with a 233-49 record.

1941: TENNIS - Juan Monaco advances to the third round of the US Open on after Radek Stepanek retires in the third set with Monaco leading 6-4 6-1 2-0. The 23rd-seeded Stepanek said his right, serving shoulder had been bothering him for a few weeks.

1816: TENNIS - Jelena Jankovic won in straight sets despite needing an injury timeout early in her US Open second-round match against Jelena Dokic. The 11th-seeded Serb won 6-3 6-4 in one hour, 21 minutes.

1654: HORSE RACING - Former Derby-winning trainer Walter Swinburn is to quit the training ranks on 31 October. Swinburn, who rode Shergar to victory in 1981, as well as winning the race on two other occasions, took over the training licence from his father-in-law, Peter Harris, in November 2004, and has sent out over 260 winners from his yard in Tring, Herefordshire.

1651: RUGBY LEAGUE - Sky Sports News reports that former Welsh rugby union international Gareth Thomas has signed for Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors.

1641: FOOTBALL - Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane insists that his move to LA Galaxy will not reduce his hunger for success on the international stage. "Just because I'm 10 hours away on a flight, it's certainly not going to change my desire to play for my country," he said. "I had the same desire as I have now when I was 17 and the same commitment, so for me, it's no different. I will just continue doing what I have been doing for the last 10 years, and that's scoring goals."

1620: FOOTBALL - The Press Association reports that Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has mocked the reported big-money interest in Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, who was the subject of a confirmed £6.5m bid from Leicester, which was rejected by the Ibrox club, but there were rumours that another club put in a £9m bid for him. Lawwell said: "Well, last night we got a £29m bid offer for [Gary] Hooper. From an unknown agent, from an unknown club, from another universe."


1534 FOOTBALL: Capello on Owen Hargreaves future as an England player: "I hope he will be fit because he is an important player for England and he played well up to his knee problems. I hope he will be really good in a short time for Manchester City and then for the international team. He didn't play for two years, so we need to wait."

1532 FOOTBALL: More from Capello on England's away form in the qualifying campaign: "Usually when you play at home teams come to defend and we can find it diffficult. Away from home, we can sometimes find more space. It is important [to win] because every game we play is really important."

1530 FOOTBALL: England manager Fabio Capello, on the team to face Buglaria in their Euro 2012 qualifier in Sofia on Friday: "I got a lot of ideas. You need to wait. I need to find some solutions."

1515 CYCLING: Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins have been named in a preliminary squad by British Cycling for this month's Road Cycling World Championships in Copenhagen. Twelve riders will be narrowed down to eight for the for the road race, while Wiggins is on the time-trial list along with David Millar and Alex Dowsett. Emma Pooley will defend her women's time trial, while Olympic champion Nicole Cooke is among nine riders in contention for seven road race places. The team will be finalised over the next week.

1409 GOLF: Final qualifying for the 2012 Open will take place at three courses in England and one in Scotland, instead of close to the championship venue in a bid to make it more convenient for the players. Royal Lytham hosts next year's Open from 19-22 July. Royal Cinque Ports in Deal, Hillside in Southport, Woburn near Milton Keynes and Glasgow Gailes near Ayr will host the qualifying with three places at each venue up for grabs.

1402 FOOTBALL: Blackburn have cancelled the contract of striker El Hadj Diouf, according to Rovers manager Steve Kean.


1339 ATHLETICS: Welshman Greene clocks 48.27 seconds to become GB's first gold-medallist at this year's championships. Javier Culson of Puerto Rico wins silver, LJ van Zyl of South Africa wins bronze.

1334 ATHLETICS: Great Britain's Dai Greene wins gold in the men's 400m hurdles at the World Championships in Daegu.

1325 ATHLETICS: Lashinda Demus of the United States wins the women's 400m hurdles world title Thursday, setting a new world best for 2011 of 52.47 seconds. Jamaica's Melaine Walker (52.73) wins silver with Natalya Antyukh of Russia takes bronze (53.85).

1220 ROWING: Great Britain's men's eight, which included 1992 Olympic gold medallist Greg Searle, has won silver at the World Championships in Slovenia. Winners Germany are unbeaten in three years.

1138 CRICKET: Zimbabwe reach 74-1 at lunch on day one of their one-off Test against Pakistan in Bulawayo. Having been put in, openers Tino Mawoyo and Vusi Sibanda batted out almost the entire session before the latter was dismissed five short of a half-century.

1119 CRICKET: Leicestershire are dismissed for 193 in their first innings against Middlesex at Lord's and forced to follow on. England captain Andrew Strauss scored 241 not out in his side's 496-2, his highest first-class score.

1040 FOOTBALL: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is charged with improper conduct for comments made prior to the match with Sunderland on 20 August, the Football Association confirm.
