Stoke are in talks to sign Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios and hope to agree a deal in the next 48 hours, BBC Sport understands.
The Honduras international played no part in Spurs' 3-0 defeat by Manchester United on Monday because of injury.
Palacios moved to White Hart Lane for £12m in January 2009, but he has found first-team opportunities limited.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis is believed to be prepared to pay around £6m for the 27-year-old.
- 2000-02 -Victoria (Honduras)
- 2002-08 - Olimpia (Honduras), appearances 102, goals 32
- 2007-08 - Birmingham (loan), appearances 7, goals 0
- 2008-09 - Wigan, appearances 37, goals 0
- 2009-present - Tottenham, appearances 65, goals 1
Palacios made 22 starts for Spurs last season and featured for his country at the World Cup in South Africa, playing three times.
Spurs team-mate Peter Crouch has also been linked with a move to the Britannia Stadium in recent weeks.
He has managed just 12 goals in his 72 Premier League appearances for Harry Redknapp's side since his £9m arrival from Portsmouth in 2009.
Stoke Chairman Peter Coates told BBC Radio Stoke last week: "We've made our last bid, the ball is in their court. We shall not be negotiating from where we are.
"The last conversation I had with Spurs, we had not agreed anything. We'll see what happens, but we haven't got any further."
