Chelsea have put in a bid for Anderlecht's 18-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku, BBC Sport understands.
The Belgian club said they were in talks with the Blues over his possible sale last month, although the teenager has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.
Chelsea have now made a firm bid for the Belgian international, although the fee they have offered is unknown.
Lukaku has scored twice in 10 games for his national team.
In June, Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck said: "There is still a long way to go in the negotiations.
"We are indeed negotiating with Chelsea, but there are other clubs we are talking to."
Lukaku is one of the most promising talents in European football and it has been reported that he could command a fee in the region of £18m.
